The process of creating a video memoir goes something like this:
Recording of Stories, Sorting of Photos. Mary Jane Soule and client meet once a week for twelve to fourteen weeks at client’s home for three hours at a time. We have informal taped conversations and sort through photos or other memorabilia. Concurrently, any tape recordings we make are transcribed.
Rough Narrative. Soule edits the tape transcripts into a narrative and delivers it to client. Client gives feedback.
We discuss and agree on changes, corrections, additions, and deletions.
Visual Selection and Digitization. Client and Soule select photos, home movies, and other visual materials for possible inclusion in the video. Soule converts the visual materials into digital format.
Rough Cut. Soule edits narrative and visuals into a rough version of the final video. We identify areas where additional narrative and visuals are needed.
Recording of Additional Interviews and Sound Effects. Soule records additional material as needed.

Research and Procurement of Additional Images. Archival material is located, purchased, and incorporated into the video.
Music Selection. Appropriate music is located for use in the video. Depending on the sources and intended distribution, fees for music rights may be incurred. (Such fees are not included in the video memoir price.)
Fine Cut and Master Tape Production. The video is edited into a form very close in timing and content to the finished product. Client reviews the fine cut and gives feedback. Then a master tape is made.
Duplication (optional). Soule and client select the tape, CD, or DVD for distribution. We also decide on packaging and determine the number of copies to produce. Soule handles duplication for cost plus 15%. Cost of duplication can vary from $10 to $15 per copy.
Note that duplication is not included in the video memoir price since individual clients have widely differing needs and preferences.
